If you want to get along well with a person from Sichuan, you must talk about the food. Once you get on this topic, a Sichuanese will talk until the cows come home. After a while, you’ll suddenly realize that you’ve become great friends. BUT, if you actually don’t like Sichuan food, I recommend you say it’s because you have a weak stomach and can’t handle the spices. People in Sichuan walk slowly, and you’ll find them quite laid-back. It’s true. They’re super laid-back and not in too much of a hurry in the best sense possible. However, when it comes to Sichuan food, they tend to be less laid-back and will pay close attention to your reactions when eating it. This is just what people in Sichuan are like (from my perspective).
In terms of the province, it’s like Yunnan Province in that there are HUGE swathes of natural scenery, and many areas with Tibetan villages. Some travelers actually feel that going to Sichuan’s Tibetan villages is better than actual Tibet because it’s less inconvenient and involves a lot less paperwork. All you have to do in Sichuan is eat your fill, talk sweet, and you’ll have a great time.
